“The truth about Chris Myles and the best legs in showbiz”
Week Seven, Coventry (with a bit of Norwich)
Two blogs ago I wrote about living with the Abbess in Coventry – not the Cathedral you understand, and not the real Abbess, but a terrace with a camp bed, and the cross-dressing icon, Councillor Kennedy, formerly known as Chris Myles. I’d like to move on to Norwich now, but I can’t yet because I left a bit of my heart behind with Chris, (as well as a Pilates DVD and a rainbow sock from Help the Aged).

Diary of a Gossip: What has Elton John got to do with Propeller?

“What has Elton John got to do with Propeller?”
Week Three, Girona
I’ve still got it. My mojo that is. My voice is another matter, but we won’t go
into that now. Let’s accentuate the positive. I know the last blog was a little off
piste, a little ‘bnt’ (‘bitter and twisted,’ not the sandwich, that’s ‘blt’), but it came
from another time, a darker one, before the Richard rebirth. That’s all gone, that
melancholia. It may come back, of course, after three hundred performances of the
same “venomous queen” (Surrey Advertiser), but for now it’s all chocolate and roses,
or anchovies and figs.

Diary of a Gossip: Don’t believe all you read in the papers

“Don’t believe all you read in the papers”
Week Two, Guildford
I’ll talk about the show in a minute, but I need to get something off my chest first.
This theatre has special memories for me, and for every Propeller boy I imagine (I’m
using “boy” in its less literal context). This is the eighth production we’ve performed
here. The first was ‘Rose Rage’ with Richard Clothier as Richard, and here we are
ten years later with the beast from that embryo. But less about that beast, the “bottled
spider” I mean, and more about this beast, the “wrinkled witch” I mean (that’s me
for those who haven’t seen the show.) The performance I remember most was “A
Midsummer Nights Dream,” because I got to play Bottom. As you know I’m not one
to talk about myself but I should mention that Charles Spencer, theatre critic from the
Daily Telegraph, said I was the best Bottom he’d ever seen.
